Description
Integrating Amazon Seller Central with SyncSpider helps sellers streamline their e-commerce operations by syncing valuable data across platforms. However, when it comes to Personally Identifiable Information (PII) — such as buyer names, addresses, and contact information — Amazon enforces specific rules to ensure data privacy and security.
Below you can learn how PII data is managed within your Amazon Seller Central integration, focusing on what data is accessible and what remains restricted to help you make the most of your integration.
What is considered PII in Amazon Seller Central?
Personally Identifiable Information (PII) refers to any data that can be used to identify an individual. This includes details that uniquely distinguish one person from another or could be combined with other data to reveal someone’s identity.
In Amazon Seller Central, PII includes sensitive customer details such as names, shipping addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. Access to this type of data is essential for fulfilling orders and maintaining customer relationships, but it is also subject to strict privacy regulations and Amazon’s policies.
Amazon enforces tight control over PII to protect customer privacy, limiting access to only what’s necessary for specific operational needs. As a result, the level of access you have to PII can vary depending on how orders are fulfilled within Amazon Seller Central.
What Are the Fulfillment Options in Amazon Seller Central (FBA vs. FBM)?
SyncSpider is authorized for Direct-to-Customer shipping, allowing access to PII data for customer orders based on what is necessary to fulfill each action.
However, there are limitations. Amazon only shares the PII data required for specific operational needs, meaning that if Amazon is handling the fulfillment (FBA), they restrict access to certain details. As a result, if you’re using FBA, you won’t receive the full PII data from Amazon.
Here’s how PII data access varies depending on whether you use Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) or Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) in Amazon Seller Central:
Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA)
With Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA), Amazon manages the fulfillment process entirely, from warehousing products to packing and shipping them to customers. Since Amazon is responsible for these logistics, they restrict the amount of PII data shared with sellers to protect customer privacy.
When using FBA, the following PII related fields will appear as blank if you attempt to preview them while mapping a task in SyncSpider:
For FBA orders, Amazon does not provide the buyer's actual email address. Instead, you receive an Amazon-encrypted email that is unique to each buyer like [email protected] .
As it is still unique to each buyer, this encrypted email can be added to the buyer’s PII data, allowing you to send messages through that encrypted email that will trigger a message to the buyer in Amazon.
Important Note: Even with FBA, when the seller is responsible for generating invoices, rather than Amazon, SyncSpider can access all necessary PII data to create an invoice.
With Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM), SyncSpider is authorized to pull full PII data directly from Amazon via the order entity. Since the merchant is responsible for the entire fulfillment process, Amazon provides access to all essential customer details to enable smooth order management.
For FBM orders, SyncSpider can retrieve PII data and customer information, such as:
- Full name
- Shipping address
- Contact details (including phone number and email)
