In this Help Article, we will be explaining how to Map your Shopify Collection
by using Tags mapping field and we will be giving an additional information of what
Collections and Tags are.

1) Why is the use of Tags for your Collection considered to be the best practice?

Tags can sort your products and content on your Shopify store to help make it easier to manage

E.G. Create product collections.

You can create custom tags in specific sections of your store to arrange important details. Tags can be easily created, added to specific posts, removed, searched, filtered, and linked to multiple items or collections.

Tags can be a very valuable and powerful tool when it comes to Products.

One of that cases is a Get Product entity for Shopify where taking a Collection is not possible.

To see the list of all available fields in Product as a Source click Here.

2) Product Tag Guidelines

The following guidelines can help make your Tags work best for you and your business:

  • Characters - Use only ordinary letters, numbers, and the hyphen (-) in your tags. Avoid accented characters and other symbols, otherwise they might not work as you expect or as conditions in automated collections.

Special characters in tags are either ignored or are treated as being the same.

Example: Suppose you have a condition for an automated collection of Product tag is equal to yellow-new. All products that have the following tags are also included in the collection: yellow_new, yellow+new, yellow&new.

  • Length - no more than 16 characters.

Note: Please beware that Shopify Get Product can NOT retrieve a category,
therefore it would be the best practice to apply Automated Collections by Tag.

3) Creating a Collection and adding a Product Tag inside Shopify

To create your Collection, please head to your desired Store in Shopify and open the Collections menu as shown on the picture below:

1.   Click Create collection button located in the upper right corner

2.  Enter a title and description for the collection.

3.  In the Collection type section, click Automated.

4.  Select whether products need to match all conditions or any condition to be included in the collection.

5.  Use the drop-down lists to set the collection conditions.

6.  In the Conditions section, please chose Product Tag option from the drop-down menu.

7.  Select is equal to from the second drop-down list.

8.  Specify your desired Tag

9. Click Save.

In the Products section that is displayed, the products that match the conditions are automatically added to the collection.

Note: When a condition uses product tags, you need to enter the exact tag as a condition value.

For example, to set up a condition that selects products tagged with YourTag:

  1. Select Product tag from the first drop-down list.

  2. Select is equal to from the second drop-down list.

  3. Enter YourTag.

Start by creating the products, and enter a tag to identify each one:

Product name

Product tag

Leather belt

belt

Braided belt

belt

Straw hat

hat

Sun hat

hat

Panama hat

hat

Next, create two automated collections, each with a single condition:

Collection name

Condition

Belts

Product tag is equal to belt

Hats

Product tag is equal to hat

5) Mapping

Now that the tags are set up in Shopify the task is ready for mapping.

Firstly we need to map Tags to Tags:

Once you Preview the Values in our App ,

You will be able to see the tags previously made in your Shopify Store:

Result:
As we have previously set our Collection Type to be Automated, the products will be now put in the right Collection in the Shopify based on their tag.
